                Is an English Shepherd the Dog for you?

English Shepherds are a working breed.  They are bred to be a versatile farm hand.  Rather than a dog who simply does one job, they do many.  They manage livestock from poultry to sheep to cattle, with appropriate training.  They help to guard the farmstead and family.  They locate lost livestock, alert their farmer to anything that is not as it should be.  They watch the gate so no one escapes, and put the escapees back where they belong.  English Shepherds handle varmint control.  Some bloodlines are even are used for hunting.  What is most important is to have the right dog for our situation.

They aren't for every situation.  They need a "job".  Ideally, that job is helping on a farm.  There are other jobs that they enjoy.  Many love to hike and camp, kayak,  barn hunt, agility, frisbee and more.  Again, the important thing is to have the right pup for your lifestyle.
